Central California Parent Magazine’s Fifteenth Annual Readers’ Choice Awards

Keeping kids outfitted, finding fabulous places for fun, and even knowing where to grab a bite to eat are all in a day’s work for us parents. To make it easier we decided a little networking was in order. So once again, Central California Parent Magazine polled all you moms and dads out there to tell us what’s worth raving about—and we heard you loud and clear! Thanks to everyone who filled out the Readers’ Choice Award Ballot—we’re sure lots of other families will enjoy checking out your picks.
John’s Incredible Pizza (Fresno, 323-1111) takes the cake for best party place. Tumbling into second place is The Little Gym (Fresno, 433-3434). Readers voted Magic of Elder (Central California. 917-4543) as number one kids’ party entertainer and Todd the Snake Make (Central California, 360-7467) and Something Enchanted Princess Parties (Central California, 859-7073) tied for second place.
Birthdays are best at Clovis Community Medical Center (Clovis, 324-4000). St. Agnes Medical Center (Fresno, 450-3000) takes second with advanced technology and the expertise of top-ranked physicians.
Martial Art Fresno (Fresno, 433-6907) achieves a black belt in this category followed by Quan’s Bushido-Kai Martial Arts (Clovis, 770-8420) who comes in second.
Parents head to The Children’s Place (Fresno, 440-1019) when they’re looking to dress the kiddos. In a close and stylish second was Target (Central California).
California Arts Academy (Fresno, 222-6539) receives the most accolades for dance classes. The Dance Studio of Fresno (Fresno, 432-0267) waltzes in a close second.
Families flip for The Little Gym (Fresno, 433-3434) with a variety of gym programs for kids. MyGym (Clovis, 797-4243) sticks the landing for second with their fun classes and programs.
Hairdo’s Done Right
Whether it’s that emotional first hair cut, a trim, or a buzz cut, the shear favorite is Cool Cuts 4 Kids (Clovis, 325-7348). The Great American Barbershop (Fresno, 389-0503) came in second by a hair.
Good Company Players’ Junior Company (Fresno, 266-0211) receives a standing ovation from Central California families for their live theater. Children’s Musical Theaterworks (Fresno, 866-973-9610) also receives rave reviews.
Must See Museum
The Discovery Center (Fresno, 251-5533) is where science, nature, and regional history adventures await for parents and kids alike. Also popular, and coming in second, is Imagine U Children’s Museum (Visalia, 733-5975).
Fresno Music Academy & Arts (Fresno, 222-7464) hits a high note offering a variety of music lessons for kids. United Conservatory of Music (Fresno, 869-8263) chimes in at second.
Grade A Preschool
Top marks are awarded to The Learning Tree (Fresno, 439-8143) for their quality Christian care in a nurturing environment. Also praised by parents was Brighten Academy Preschool (Clovis, 294-1310), an academic enrichment center that fosters social, emotional, and academic growth with Fresno locations coming soon!
The water is great and so is the instruction at America’s Kids in Motion (Clovis, 324-7946) voted best swim school fins down by families. Bullfrog Swim School (Central California, 281-8650) comes in second by a stroke.
Best ABC’s and 1-2-3’s
Voted the Valedictorian of tutoring centers, Math Crazy (Fresno, 439-6700) helps kids make the grade in reading, math, writing, college prep, and more! Also scoring high is Tutoring Club (Fresno and Clovis, 312-2953).
Blackbeard’s Family Entertainment Center (Fresno, 292-9000), with its arcades, miniature golf, race track, and more, comes through loud and clear as the winner in our Entertainment & Amusement Centers category. Close behind with endless pizza possibilities is John’s Incredible Pizza (Fresno, 323-1111).
Winning Work Out
GB3 (Fresno and Clovis, 438-3003) has the most muscle when it comes to working up a sweat. Crossing the finish line second is SkyWalk Extreme Air Sports (Madera, 326-2022).
Favorite Family Night Out
Families flock to Red Robin (Fresno, Clovis, and Visalia. 436-4200) for the casual atmosphere, great kid’s menu, and reasonable prices. John’s Incredible Pizza comes in as the second course (Fresno, 323-1111).
Mall with the Most
Fashion Fair (Fresno, 224-1591), with its variety of retail stores and restaurants is tops with families when it’s time to shop or just hang out. River Park Shopping Center (Fresno, 437-4855) racked up at second place.
Mouthwatering treats that top the list are found at Chosen Frozen Yogurt (Fresno, 299-2595) where you can customize your own delicious creation! Ampersand Ice Cream (Fresno, 264-8000) came in a cool second with treats made scratch daily by hand and with lots of love.
Children say, “cheese” most often for Lori Kearney Photography (Central California, 313-6305). Flashing their way into second is Dillmore Portraits (Central California, 301-9838).
Pizza with Pizzaz
No matter how you slice it Me n’ Eds (Central California, 276-8341) is the best place for pizza. John’s Incredible Pizza (Fresno, 323-1111), with its virtual games, bumper cars, laser tag, glow golf, and an infinite variety of video games rolls into second.
When the mercury soars past 100 degrees families flee to waterparks! Wild Water Adventure Park (Clovis, 299-9453) makes the biggest splash with families, followed by The Island Waterpark (Fresno, 277-6800) with endless lazy river float, headfirst racing slides, and more.
Ideal Indoor Sport Center
No Surrender Adventure Park (Clovis, 981-2046) takes first place this year with endless adventure including laser tag, virtual reality, arcade, and adventure course. Tiny Tots Playground (Fresno, 513-3680) is second on the list for indoor fun that includes sensory activities and socialization.
Families who want bright smiles head to California KiDDS Pediatric Dentistry (Fresno, Clovis, and Reedley 439-6600) where they specialize in the treatment and prevention of childhood dental disease. Smiling in second is Powell Pediatric Dentistry (Fresno and Visalia, 299-3949).
The Fresno Chaffee Zoo in Fresno’s Roeding Park (Fresno, 498-5910), continues to be the favorite place to see animals with more than 730 mammals, birds, and reptiles. Coming in second place is Project Survival Cat Haven (Dunlap, 338-3216), home to cheetahs, tigers, bobcats, and more!
Premier Private School
Saint Helen’s Catholic School (Fresno, 251-5855) made the grade for premier private school. Also receiving top marks is Fairmont Private School (Fresno, 226-2347).
Fast Food Find
When the wheels on the mini-van go ‘round and ‘round all around the town, you’re sure to hear the refrain, “I’m hungry!” from the back seat. In-N-Out (Central California. 1-800-786-1000) came in as the real crowd pleaser followed by Mama Mia Pizzeria (Fresno, 439-5303).
California Arts Academy (Fresno, 222-6539) was voted the best art studio where children can experience the intuitive art process. Fresno Art Museum (Fresno, 441-4221) paints its way into second by providing the community with dynamic experiences for appreciating and creating art.
The clear winner in the first bracket was Thurman Orthodontics (Fresno and Clovis, 439-0425) with their outstanding service, cutting-edge technology, and exciting ambiance. Taking second place was Dempsey Orthodontics (Fresno, 226-7468).
Check-ups are best with the pediatricians at Community Medical Providers (Central California, 437-7338). Kaiser Permanente (Fresno, Clovis, Selma, and Oakhurst, 448-4500) pediatricians take a close second.
